In December of 2009 I begged Santa for a Fuji Instax Mini Camera for two reasons…
1. I wanted to take a photo every single day of 2010
2. I wanted to cover one of the walls in my apartment with the photos
So Christmas morning rolled around and Santa hooked me up with a Fuji Instax Mini 55 Camera! Later that day my wife and I went to my parents home in Baltimore to exchange gifts. I had purchased my mom and two sisters some lovely furry winter hats shaped like mouse ears. Sadly, they did not perceive the mouse hats as being lovely at all, in fact, they really hated them. “You only got these to take stupid photos” they yelled, adding “we can’t wear these dirty furball hats publicly!” Needless to say, all three refused the hats. Fortunately I had also given them umbrellas shaped like people that they did not completely hate, which looking back was a true Christmas miracle.
A few days later my wife and I packed the car, furball hats and all, and headed back to Brooklyn. It only made sense that my first photo of 2010 would involve my lovely wife Vicki wearing one of the “dirty furball hats”. We pulled over at a rest stop, took the photo, and headed home. Naturally the first thing I did when I walked in the door was scan the photo and email it to my mom. She replied to photo with a few choice words and MY MOM REVIEWS MY PHOTOS was born.
Ever since that day I have been scanning each daily photo and emailing it to my mom for a “review” of sorts. These reviews typically include the following…
1. A title for the photo
2. A unique commentary that may or may not have anything to do with the actual photo
3. A Toby Score
The “Toby Score” is similar to the star system used to rate movies except that my mom has replaced stars with her dog Toby. From what I can tell 1 Toby is usually bad and 5 Tobys is usually good. I say usually because oftentimes her Toby Score seems to directly contradict the rest of her review. That’s pretty much it I guess.
